WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THERAPY
The first session of therapy will mostly be about gathering information. The therapist will complete a bio-psychosocial assessment which takes about one to two hours. Bio-psychosocial is a comprehensive assessment that looks at the person's medical, mental and social history. This session won't be asking you to go into detail about trauma-inducing events but rather identify the events that were the most impactful. This phase will also be a time to go over necessary paperwork( informed consent, HIPAA statement, Release of information, Financial agreement, and any policy paperwork).
The session that follows after the completion of the bio-psychosocial assessment is treatment planning. Now that we have historical information, it's time to create a treatment plan. Think of a treatment plan as the map for our sessions: it keeps us on course. During the treatment planning phase, we will highlight the presenting problem, create short-term and long-term goals with objectives, and identify therapeutic methods that will be used.
Now that you probably know your therapist a little better than that first interaction the following sessions will be regular therapy sessions that aim to achieve the set goals. We know it takes courage to make the call, we understand, and we are here for you.
